Coming soon: Maan/ Moon

On July 21, 1969, 2:56 UTC, Neil Alden Armstrong (US, 1930-2012) sets foot on the moon for the very first time, making an end to the yearlong Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. Now exactly 50 years later FOMU revisits this alien tipping point. This photographic exploration researches how our biggest satellite kept appealing to our imagination.

Both exhibition and publication are devided in three chapters, each exploring a different timeframe. From the first photographic glance towards the moon shortly after photograpy’s invention, through to the key year 1969 and the Cold War period, we end with a contemporary view on that elusive white disc on our firmament.
