DOC*WERK is an initiative that aims to promote the work of documentary photographers. Six partners (Fotomuseum Antwerpen, Centrum voor Beeldexpressie, deBuren, SOFAM, Fonds Patrick De Spiegelaere and photographer Carl Uytterhaegen) have put their weight behind this initiative. The DOC*WERK collective awards annual grants to Belgian documentary photographers. In 2015, Belgian photographers under the age of 30 were eligible. The winners were Tomas Bachot, Bieke Depoorter and the duo Vesna Faassen & Lukas Verdijk.
In 2016, there was no age limit, but we have chosen a theme: “The City in the South”. Old and new forms of urbanity in the south of the world create new ways of life and social organisation, new coping mechanisms and new, innovative and sometimes surprising ways of looking at urban living. An independent, prestigious jury has selected three photographers for financial support for the maximum amount of € 2.500 per grant: Tjorven Bruyneel, Nick Hannes and Pauline Niks.
DOC*WERK offers many additional opportunities to the winners, such as promotional activities, an exhibition or publication of the work, evaluation by a professional jury, and more.
